Jon Stewart vs. Vsevolod Mikhailovich Garshin
This weekend I was at the Met and was stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this painting by late 19th century Russian realist Ilya Repin. I immediately heard “The Daily Show” theme-song.
[Picture shows a background split into a spiral of 8 different colours. Clockwise: light purple, dark brown, dark purple, light brown, dark brown, light purple, light brown, dark purple. In the middle of the picture is a brown bear shown from waist up while standing. The bear’s mouth is wide open and its paws are raised. There is text on the top and bottom. Top text says: “Cannot watch Elf” Bottom text says: “Too embarrassed by Buddy’s social skills”]
As someone with a severe case of secondhand embarrassment, this hits home in a truly hilarious way.
Now take away guaranteed success.
When your head and heart is consumed with fear, you’ll have no room for dreams. Even if you don’t know the outcome, try, and try again.
100% of society should stop insulting girls for their appearances and maybe this percentage would drop.
this is so true!

Sunday Lunch with Adam’s Family
When I was a little girl, my mom would always make me a new Easter dress. A week or so…
SEGUE OF THE WEEK: “Btw, I like your TARDIS.”
Fellow Whovian Kenneth Branagh tells Craig Ferguson he can’t pick a favorite, he likes all the Doctors (he thinks Matt Smith is “very good”).
Craig Ferguson returns that his favorite monster is a Dalek (we knew that already). He also enjoys talking about Daleks. And Karen Gillan.
um, can we talk about how adorable iris apfel is? seriously, she is everyone’s favorite i-want-you-to-be-my-grandma octogenarian. born in my now-homebase of astoria, queens, iris’ mother owned a boutique, which no doubt inspired her to grow up wholeheartedly immersing herself in fashion. she studied art history at nyu and the university of wisconsin before dabbling in interior design, illustration and briefly working at wwd. she co-founded a textile firm, old world weavers, with her husband, which she ran from 1948 until retiring in 1992. apfel still acts as a consultant and lecturer.
why fear the unknown, when you can CONQUER IT?
